Barry Waterfront Festival 2010

Howard Metcalfe (Commodore) Jane Graves (Social Sec.) and Martin Biffin (Vice Commodore) representing BYC at the Waterfront Festival

As reported by the Barry and District News

"HMS Ramsey and the Tall Ship Stavros provided a fitting backdrop for the annual Waterfront Festival.

With fun for all the family across the weekend event, organised by the Vale of Glamorgan Council, there was plenty to see and do.

Children were tempted into the belly of a 50ft inflatable whale and washed up in front of the TS Stavros by Circo Rum Ba Ba, where they could watch live theatre performances on a nautical theme.

One of the weekend’s highlights was the living pirate village, home to the Sully Pirates, who enthralled visitors with their real-life portrayal of characters taken from local history. The pirates could be spotted wandering the crowds, generally causing mischief.

Meanwhile the solar-powered Croissant Neuf circus tent hosted circus workshops.

Saturday evening went off with a bang as visitors were dazzled by a pyrotechnic show of shooting sparks, fire juggling, aerial performance and flames courtesy of Cirque Bijou, followed by an impressive fireworks show that lit up the town and had crowds cheering.

HMS Ramsey joined in with the performance by providing an impressive backdrop, lit up with lights".

Howard, Martin and Jane hosted the BYC tent at the festival.

Several club members displayed their dinghy sailing skills in the dock at the event.
