The final stage of the first phase is now well underway, with grant aid having been released to complete the work on restoration of the Lifeboat House. The seaward gable end has been rebuilt, followed by further work on an apron around the top of the slipway. Work is now complete and the scaffolding is being removed.

The long awaited security gates are now installed. The automatic gates are operated by swiping a key fob over an electronic eye. Visitor can park nearby in the public car park and either ring the clubhouse or make arrangements in advance of their visit. A contribution of £40 for full members and £10 for associates has been levied to offset the costs of the gates and key fobs. For family and couples, a limited supply of additional fobs are available, at £10 each, from Tony Wood. The fob key code can be changed annually to ensure that security is maintained.

Recent reports in the local press (GEM) indicate that proposals have been discussed regarding siting a Marina in Barry Docks. The reports point out that this will be in competition with other sites such as Porthcawl and Swansea, where proposals for Marinas are also underway.

More news as it’s released.
